India encountered Pakistan in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. The Men in Green, after being put to bat posted a fighting total of 159 runs on the board with Shan Masood (52 runs off 42 balls) and Iftikhar Ahmed (51 runs off 34 balls) scoring superb half-centuries.
Chasing 160, India at once stage were staring down the barrel at 31 for 4 and the chances of them scaling the target looked quite slim. But Kohli did not give up. He kept the scoreboard ticking and took the game down to the wire. Then came a stage when 54 runs were required off 24 deliveries. It was a herculean task but the former India skipper was up for the challenge.
Kohli put on an exhibition of some glorious stroke play and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. The Delhi-born scored 82* runs off 53 deliveries which included six fours and four majestic sixes to take India across the line. It was certainly an innings of the ages from the batting maestro.
