5 Biggest controversies that rocked Bangladesh cricket
Bangladesh cricket has been marred with several controversies over the years.
1. Shakib Al Hasan one-year ban for corruption
Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best things that happened to Bangladesh cricket but there have been several instances when the Bangladesh star cricketer has invited controversies in his career. In October 2019, the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption unit handed him a two-year ban (one year of that suspended) for failing to report corrupt approaches from a dubious person.
Back in November 2017 to April 2018, Shakib was approached on three instances to give information about team composition and strategy via text messages by an individual Deepak Aggarwal, who was suspected of being involved in match-fixing. But instead of reporting those approaches, Shakib stayed quiet and was slapped with a ban.
Shakib, after accepting the sanction from the ICC, also admitted that he breached the ICC Anti-Corruption Code by not reporting those approaches from Aggarwal. In January 2021, after serving a one-year ban, he returned to international cricket against the West Indies in Mirpur.
