5 India players whose comeback seems impossible in IPL 2024

The IPL 2024 mini-auction will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19. Before that, all ten franchises have to submit the list of released and retained players by November 26. The trading window has been open for the franchises to swap players from each other and till now only trade has happened. West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd moved to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants. Not much activity is expected in the trading window as this is the final year of the three-year contracts for all players. However, the focus will be on the veteran players, especially Indian players who have been part of the Indian Premier League for some time now. There are players still in the squads of various franchises who were once in the prime of their form, but now their effect has diminished. And if these players are released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, they might not find any buyers in the event in Dubai. Here are 5 Indian players whose comeback seems impossible in IPL 2024: 1. Sheldon Jackson Sheldon Jackson (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Sheldon Jackson has been a staple of the Indian Premier League for quite some now. He has played for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. His record is not extraordinary and one big reason that he has failed to find reliable success is his inconsistent performances. Despite making his IPL debut in 2017, Jackson has played only 9 matches, scoring 61 runs with a highest of 16 runs. Behind the stumps, he has 7 catches and 2 stumpings to his name. He had a decent run of 5 matches in IPL 2022 with KKR, but he failed to come good with just 23 runs in total. 2. Siddarth Kaul Siddarth Kaul. (Photo Source: BCCI) Siddarth Kaul is another player who promised a lot but didn’t get enough chances to showcase his talent. Kaul has played 55 IPL matches since his debut in 2013 and picked 58 wickets with a best of 4/29. His best year was IPL 2018, when played all 17 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad and picked 21 wickets. But in the IPL, Kaul has always been a backup bowler than anything else. To add to this, his lack of pace and diminishing ability to swing the ball and effectively deliver yorkers might hinder his chances in the IPL 2024 auction. It remains to be seen whether Royal Challengers Bangalore retains him or not. 3. In 181 games, he has 179 wickets with a best of 4/17 and an economy of 7.91. He has been part of Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, but had found the most success with Kolkata Knight Riders and recently with Mumbai Indians. Chawla had gone unsold in the IPL 2022 auction, but MI surprisingly picked him in the IPL 2023 auction and he repaid the faith with 22 wickets in 16 matches. However, despite being just 35 years old, Chawla’s fitness and effect have diminished quite a bit and there are far younger and more talented leg-spinners on the horizon. If he is released by MI, Chawla might find it hard to find another home for the IPL 2024. 4. Kedar Jadhav Kedar Jadhav. (Photo Source: Twitter) Kedar Jadhav was a shock replacement player in the IPL 2023, picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He had his best years with Chennai Super Kings and somewhat with Delhi Capitals. In 95 IPL matches, Jadhav has 1208 runs with 4 fifties at a strike rate of 123.14. But at the age of 38, Jadhav might not be the talent even RCB is looking for anymore. He didn’t get many chances in IPL 2023 to prove his worth and proved to be a stop-gap arrangement by the franchise as a finisher. It seems like if released, Kedar Jadhav’s IPL career might come to an end. 5. Amit Mishra Amit Mishra. (Photo Source: Twitter/@IPL) Amit Mishra remains the only bowler in IPL history to take three hat-tricks and has 173 wickets in 161 matches in the tournament. His economy is 7.38 and his best figures are 5/17. He is currently with the Lucknow Super Giants franchise and played 7 matches in IPL 2023 for 7 wickets. Before this, he had gone unsold in the IPL 2022 auction and it seemed like his career was over. In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy, Mishra managed just 5 wickets in 7 games for Haryana at an economy of 6.80. Given that he is 41 years old and his fitness has always been a bit iffy, we might have seen the last of Amit Mishra in IPL and he might not get picked in IPL 2024 if released before the auction.
