The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is all set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. With 1574 players registering themselves, including 329 capped stars and 48 Indians, the competition for acquiring the services of some names will trigger bidding wars amongst the franchises. For the first time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expanded the purse size to INR 120 crore each from INR 100 crore. The registered players for the auction see South Africa lead the international contingent with 91 players, and even associate nations like Canada, Scotland, and the Netherlands making their presence felt. The modern game demands exceptional fitness levels, and the ability to adapt to multiple roles, but some players who have been part of the league for a long time have not been fired in recent times. With the teams having only 204 slots to fill, few big names might not make it to the biggest franchise tournament once again, as the teams have moved on and are looking for new and fresh talent. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Veteran leg spinner Amit Mishra was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2023 for the base price of INR 50 lakh and might not be part of any team in this edition of the cash-rich league. Though the 41-year-old is the seventh highest-wicket taker in the competition with 174 wickets, he has not played much in the past two seasons. Last year he just got one game and warmed the bench throughout the season. With franchises looking to build their teams for the next three years, Mishra, who has already crossed the 40-age mark, might not have the same fitness level compared to a younger player. With the game moving forward rapidly, the Delhi-born might not see any team lift the paddle for him. 4. Jayant Yadav Jayant Yadav was part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) camp before the all-rounder was released ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions. Yadav was picked by Titans in their inaugural season in 2022 for INR 1.70 crore and played only one game for them in three seasons. Despite a Test century and a four-wicket haul, the 34-year-old has yet to make an impact in the game's shortest format. Yadav has received few opportunities because his style of play but did not fit into the starting XI. With new requirements in the game, teams will have alternative plans and strategies for acquiring new talent, and the right-hander may not appear in the next edition of the league. 3. This was India pacers highest-ever price in the IPL auction. He got the opportunity to feature in only seven matches and picked eight wickets at an economy of 10 for the former champions and was looked over in the second half of the tournament. Yadav, who has set his base price at INR 2 crore for the 2025 mega-auction, is unlikely to attract teams because of his high base price and recent underwhelming performances. 2. Ishant Sharma Ishant Sharma. (Source - IPL) Ishant Sharma was retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 50 lakhs in the previous season but was released ahead of the mega-auction 2025. The right-hand pacer has played in 17 games in total since joining the Capitals in 2023. In two seasons, he has managed to pick 20 wickets at an economy of 8.23. Ishant has been out of place in franchise cricket in the recent few years. The pacer, who is currently 36 years old, might not be in the team's prospects as they are searching for young pacers in their lineups. Furthermore, the Delhi-born player has an injury-prone body, which may prevent teams from selecting him for this season. 1. In the last two editions, he has participated in 27 games and smashed 568 runs. The right-hander has an experience of 185 IPL matches and two 500-plus run seasons to his name.
