2. Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene is one of the greatest cricketers Sri Lanka has ever produced. The 45-year-old has amassed truckloads of runs across formats and also led the national side for a substantial period of time. It was under his leadership that the Lankan Lions reached the finals of the 2007 ODI World Cup.

After announcing his retirement from international cricket in 2015, the former Sri Lankan cricketer has donned the coach’s hat several times. Jayawardene was appointed the head coach of the Mumbai Indians in 2017 and MI tasted success in his very first year at the helm as Rohit & co. defeated Rising Pune Super Giants in the finals of the marquee tournament.

Jayawardene continued to add more feathers to his cap as he helped the Mumbai franchise lift two consecutive titles in 2019 and 2020, making MI only the second franchise in the history of the lucrative T20 tournament after Chennai Super Kings to defend their IPL crown.

The Sri Lankan legend was the coach of Rohit & co. till the last season and is presently associated with the franchise as their global head of performance.
