The current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has come a long way and established himself as one of the best white-ball players in modern-day cricket with a record three ODI double centuries and four T20I tons. Apart from that, the ‘Hitman’ also holds the record of having registered the highest individual score in One Day International cricket of 264 which remains intact to-date. He even remains the leading run-scorer in the shortest format having registered 3694 runs from 140 matches averaging 32.12 at a strike rate of 141.04. Meanwhile, the journey was not easy for Rohit who is currently going strong at 35. Even though he was drafted into the Indian team in 2007 at a young age of 20 and was an integral member of the Men in Blue’s memorable T20 World Cup triumph and the Commonwealth Bank tri-series win down under during the 2007/08 season, it was only from 2013 onwards that he regularly started featuring in the Indian XI. However, there are a few cricketers who are younger than the Mumbai cricketer and have already announced their retirement from the highest level with some even featuring in the cricket tournaments for the retired legends. Abhimanyu Mithun Abhimanyu Mithun used to make sporadic appearances for the Indian team in the last decade. However, due to inconsistent performances and cut-throat competition in the pace department, he could not be a regular face in the Indian team. Apart from featuring in four Tests and five One Day Internationals for India, Mithun has also played domestic cricket for Karnataka and represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Despite toiling hard all these years eyeing a comeback into the national team, the Karnataka cricketer finally bid adieu to first-class cricket in October last year and is currently a part of the India Legends squad in the ongoing Road Safety World Series 2022. Surprisingly, Mithun is only 32 years old. 2. Sudeep Tyagi Sudeep Tyagi was also a promising pacer when he first grabbed headlines in IPL 2009 for his good performances representing CSK where one of his deliveries even left AB de Villers clueless. Sudeep is only less than five months younger to Rohit Sharma. Even though he showed a lot of promise in the second edition of the Indian Premier League, he could not click at the highest level and only went on to make a solitary T20I appearance against Sri Lanka in December 2009. He also played four ODIs for the national team, picking up three wickets. Despite showcasing his best efforts for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, Tyagi failed to attain fame and fortune that he had initially, and finally announced his retirement on November 18, 2020. He turned 35 just a few days ago. 3. Abul Hasan: Bowling all-rounder Mohammed Abul Hasan might have certainly become the next big thing in Bangladesh cricket had he been nurtured well by his senior players as well as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) which was not to be. During a Test match against the West Indies in November 2020, Hasan became only the fourth player to score a century batting at number 10 and just the second player to achieve this feat on debut. Despite that he could only represent Bangladesh in three Tests, seven ODIs and five T20Is. Abul Hasan is currently representing Bangladesh Legends in the ongoing RSWS 2022. The promising cricketer is only 30 years of age. 4. Isuru Udana: Isuru Udana is one of the names who had the potential of being a good cricketer, but just could not click in international cricket. He, along with T20I skipper Dasun Shanaka, could have worked in tandem and bolstered Sri Lanka’s pace department. While he has impressed one and all with his impactful bowling performances in franchise leagues across the globe, the senior pacer did not get the respect that he rightfully deserved while representing Sri Lanka having played 21 ODIs and 35 T20Is that he announced his international retirement in July last year at the peak of his career. Isuru Udana is currently trying his luck representing the Sri Lanka Legends in the ongoing RSWS and is just 34 years old. 5. Thisara Perera Thisara Perera is arguably one of the biggest names in world cricket to bow out not getting a chance to unleash his full potential. The dynamic all-rounder had hit the winning six against India in the final of the T20 World Cup 2014 in Dhaka. Perera had captained Sri Lanka and went on to represent the island nation in six Tests, 166 One Day Internationals and 84 T20Is. Apart from that, he has also made the most of his all-round abilities in franchise and county cricket. However, in May 2021, Perera decided to end his international career due to contract issues with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). He is currently representing the Gujarat Giants in the Legends League Cricket and is just 33.
