5 Players who missed World Cup matches due to weird reasons
Most recently, West Indian star batter Shimron Hetmyer missed his flight for the T20 World Cup 2022 and was removed from the squad.
2. Shimron Hetmyer - Missed World Cup flight twice
The star West Indies batter was dropped from the World Cup squad after he missed his rescheduled flight to Australia on October 3, 2022. Hetmyer's original flight was postponed from Saturday (October 1) to Monday (October 3) as he requested for the same due to family reasons but the player also missed the second flight, which cost him a place in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Jimmy Adams, the director of West Indies Cricket, revealed that the player was already warned that further delays will cost him a spot in the sqaud. "Whilst we changed Shimron’s flight from Saturday to Monday due to family reasons, it was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues with his travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad," Adams said.
In his response to the World Cup snub, Hetmyer reposted his partners' cryptic post, "There's another side to ever story told.... #whatsinthedarkmustcometolight." Hetmyer finished the Caribbean Premier League 2022 season as the leading run-scorer for Guyana Amazon Warriors with 281 runs in 11 matches at a striker rate of 124.33 and has been replaced by Shamarh Brooks in the World Cup squad.
