When the former Indian skipper reached 16 runs he surpassed Mahela Jayawardene (1016 runs in 31 matches) to become the highest run-getter in the history of the event.
The veteran batter smashed 64* runs off 44 deliveries, which included eight fours and a six. Riding on Kohli’s majestic half-century, India posted a competitive total of 184 on the board. India ended up winning the match by five runs (DLS method). India’s run machine presently stands at 1141 runs in 27 matches played in the T20 World Cup.
