Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have emerged as one of the finest side in the Indian Premier League's history. They have reached playoffs for a record number of 11 times and lifted four titles in the cash-rich league. The man behind the roaring success of CSK has been their leader MS Dhoni.

Dhoni has been leading them since the inaugural edition and after a brief hiatus in the last edition when Ravindra Jadeja was seen leading the franchise, Dhoni took over the reins again after Jadeja's stint at the helm failed to yield the desired success.

In 234 games, Dhoni has amassed 4,978 runs at an average of 39.20, with 24 fifties to his name. Rightfully, he has been the heart of CSK since its inception and is still going strong in his twilight phase. Here are the five miraculous records held by Dhoni in the IPL, which might stand the test of time.

1. Most number of appearances as captain

Dhoni was chosen as the icon player by CSK in the inaugural edition of the tournament. This was due to his success that he achieved during the T20 World Cup 2007 as the captain of the champion Indian team. Straightaway, the 41-year-old was appointed the leader of the Chennai franchise and helped them reach the final in the inaugural edition of the IPL.

CSK gradually became fans’ favorite due to Dhoni’s presence and the team’s success. In fact, the charismatic leader missed his only match for CSK in 2019 due to fever. Such has been the fitness and dedication of the captain for the franchise.

Dhoni has captained CSK on 210 occasions. Rohit is second on the list with 143 games for Mumbai Indians as a leader, while Virat Kohli is placed third with 140 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
