3. Replace Moeen Ali with Chris Woakes in case the former is unfit to feature at Lord's
While bowling continuously in the first innings at Edgbaston, Moeen Ali suffered blisters on his bowling fingers. Despite the injury, the all-rounder bowled in the second innings and took the precious wicket of Travis Head. Moeen’s injury has raised a question mark on his participation in the upcoming Lord’s Test.
Without Moeen, there will be an absence of a proper spinner to bolster England’s bowling attack but Lord’s history of supporting pacers might pave the way for Chris Woakes’s entry into the squad for the upcoming contest. Along with Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Ben Stokes, and Ollie Robinson, Woakes could add more strength to the host’s fast bowling unit.
Along with the ball, Woakes could also be handy with the bat. Batting in the lower order, the 34-year-old possesses the capability to play impactful knocks like Moeen. So far, Woakes has notched up 1675 runs with a ton and six fifties in 74 innings of 45 Tests. These batting figures make him a reliable player to fill the shoes of Moeen in the Lord’s Test.
