Asia Cup 2023: 5 Records Rohit Sharma can break during the tournament
Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the Indian side in the Asia Cup 2023, and he also has some terrific milestones approaching his way.
The next edition of the Asia Cup kicks off later this year with six teams participating, all wanting to be crowned Asia Cup champions. The Men in Blue are the most successful team, having won the Asia Cup seven times, with Sri Lanka next with six title wins. Asia Cup is a prestigious tournament and qualifying to be part of this tournament is difficult, hence only the best Asian countries compete.
Records are made, and records are often broken, and the famous record which will take some time to be broken is that of Sachin Tendulkar from the 2012 Asia Cup, where he achieved the remarkable feat of 100 centuries. With the spotlight now turned to the Indian captain, we list 5 records below that Rohit Sharma has a chance to break in the forthcoming edition of the tournament.
1. Most matches played for India in Asia Cup history
Rohit Sharma began his Asia Cup journey in 2008 and over the years, he has seen immense success by being part of three tournament-winning squads (2010, 2016, 2018). In the 2018 edition, he captained India and led the Men in Blue to a victory as well.
Rohit currently sits in second place, having played 22 matches for India. The other Indian player to have currently played more matches than Rohit is Sachin Tendulkar, who represented the side in 23 matches in the tournament. In the group stages, India are scheduled to play Pakistan and Nepal, meaning if Rohit does play those two games, he will surpass Tendulkar and become the player with the most Asia Cup appearances for India.
Although the Indian squad, for the Asia Cup 2023, hasn’t been chosen yet, barring any injuries from now to then, there are high chances of Ravindra Jadeja (14 matches) and Virat Kohli (11 matches) adding more games under their tally.
