Asia Cup 2023: A look at one weakness of each six participating teams
Despite all the efforts by cricket boards, there are some weaknesses in all of the 6 Asia Cup 2023 squads. Let's analyse all the squads and point out their flaws.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka will jointly host the Asia Cup in 2023 and have the huge advantage of playing at home. They are the defending champions, having won the Asia Cup 2022 in T20 format.
While their final squad is yet to be announced, their batting and bowling have the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera, Dasun Shanaka, and Kusal Mendis, to name a few. But their bowling unit was badly hit by injuries, and three of their frontline bowlers are most likely to be ruled out of the tournament.
Pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara were ruled out due to injuries, as Chameera suffered a shoulder injury in the recent LPL, while Kumara is still uncertain as he is not match-fit after recovering from an injury that kept him out of World Cup qualifiers.
But the biggest blow to them came when star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is likely to be ruled out due to his thigh injury, as Sri Lankan team management does not want him to further aggravate it while playing in the Asia Cup 2023. They want him to be ready for the World Cup and will be conservative with his reintroduction to top-flight cricket.
