The best opener in Asia Cup 2023 was India’s Shubman Gill. He ended up as the highest run-getter in the tournament with 302 runs in 6 matches with 2 half-centuries and one century to his name. He averaged 75.50 and had a strike rate of 93.49.

His best score of 121 came in a losing cause against Bangladesh. Chasing 266 runs, Indian batting failed in the absence of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma fell for a duck. Shubman Gill single-handedly kept India in the game with his ton which had 8 fours and 5 sixes in 133 balls he faced.

His next-best knock came against Pakistan in Super 4s. Earlier in the Group match, Gill had scored only 10 runs in 30 oddballs he had faced, But, he avenged that humiliation when he hammered 58 in just 52 balls with 10 fours. He, like Rohit Sharma, attacked the Pakistan pace battery from the start and out on 121 runs in 16.4 overs for the opening wicket.
