Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals in an exciting final to bring the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL 2023), to a spectacular close. The star-studded MI lineup produced a few pivotal individual performances that helped MI win the inaugural WPL championship. The competition that will alter the course of women's cricket offered everything a fan might have desired.

Facilitating Indian women's performances was one of the main goals in starting the Women's Premier League. Although we did witness some impressive individual performances by Indian ladies, the foreign women's overall performance throughout the event left a lasting impact. Though the results might not have met the expectations of the BCCI and supporters, women's cricket is off to a good start.

1. Hayley Matthews

Hayley Matthews emerged as the 'Player of the Tournament' for her all-round performances that won Mumbai Indians the inaugural title. She took the most wickets in the competition (16) and was awarded the Purple Cap. Mathews also had a strike rate of 126.04 while using the bat, scoring important 271 runs top of the order in 10 games.
