Cricket in 2022 has been more about T20Is than any other format. With the T20 World Cup 2022 in October, the participating teams locked horns with each other quite often to prepare for the marquee tournament. Mohammad Rizwan (wk) Mohammad Rizwan has been a pillar of Pakistan’s batting line-up in the shortest format of the game. The wicketkeeper-batter has been the run bank at the top of the order and provided his side with solid starts consistently. He has featured in 80 T20Is and scored 2635 runs at a strike rate of 126.62. The 30-year-old has been phenomenal with the bat throughout the year and accumulated 996 runs in 25 matches at a strike rate of 122.96, which includes 10 half-centuries. He has steadied the ship when his team has been in trouble and shepherded the innings beautifully. Rizwan was at his best in Asia Cup 2022 and scored 281 runs in six games at an average of 56.20. His batting exploits were instrumental in Pakistan reaching the finals of the tournament. The team management will hope the ace batter continues piling on runs for fun in the years to come. 2. Virat Kohli Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batters India has ever produced. He has been the lynchpin of the Indian batting line-up for over a decade and piled on truckloads of runs across formats. Kohli has been at his prolific best this calendar year and scored 781 runs in 20 T20Is at a strike rate of 138.23, which includes his maiden T20I century. The 34-year-old has held the innings together and allowed other stroke makers to play with freedom. He has also displayed the aggressive aspect of his game when required and tormented bowlers with his marauding bat. In India’s World Cup opener against arch-rivals Pakistan, Kohli played an innings of a lifetime, scoring 82* runs in 53 deliveries to take his team across the line. 3. Suryakumar Yadav Suryakumar Yadav has been in pristine ever since the time he first donned the India jersey. He has knocked the wind out of bowling attacks that have come his way and made the international arena his own. He has featured in 42 T20Is and scored 1408 runs at an amazing strike rate of 180.97. The 32-year-old is the highest-run getter in T20Is in this calendar year, having smashed 1164 runs in 31 games at a stunning strike rate of 187.43, including two blistering centuries. His inclusion in the Indian team has added flare to the batting line-up as he has been someone who has taken the attack to the opposition right from the get-go. Suryakumar also set the T20 World Cup 2022 on fire with his blistering performances. He scored 239 runs in six games played in the T20 carnival and at an exceptional strike rate of 189.68. The ace batter put on an exhibition of his 360-degree stroke play and demolished bowling line-ups for fun. He was India’s X-factor at the competition and was instrumental in the Men in Blue reaching the semi-finals. 4. Glenn Phillips Glenn Phillips has been a proven performer in the T20 circuit. He has featured in 197 matches in the shortest format and scored 5377 runs at a strike rate of 142.13. The flamboyant batter has shown his batting might for New Zealand as well and scored 1361 runs in 56 T20Is at a strike rate of 148.25. In 2022, the wicketkeeper-batter has been quite outstanding in T20Is and scored 716 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 156.33. Slotting in at the middle-order, Phillips has provided the impetus to the innings and helped changed the course of the game in favour of his team. Sikandar Raza Sikandar Raza has been a giant of a player in the T20 circuit. He has featured in 153 games in the shortest format and aggregated 3038 runs at a strike rate of 129.66. Also, the 36-year-old has bagged 75 wickets at an economy of 7.27. When it comes to Raza‘s contribution for Zimbabwe in T20Is, he has piled up 1259 runs in 66 games at a strike rate of 128.86 and also taken 38 wickets. The Sailkot-born has been in the form of his life this year and has set the international circuit ablaze with his exploits. Raza has taken top-drawer bowling attacks to the cleaners and smashed 735 runs in 24 T20Is at a strike rate of 150.92. On the bowling front, he strangled batters with his variations and bagged 25 scalps at a superb economy of 6.13 Raza was instrumental in Zimbabwe's success at the marquee tournament and delivered the goods with both bat and ball. The batting all-rounder smashed 219 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 147.97 and bagged 10 wickets at an impeccable economy of 6.50. 7. Shadab Khan Shadab Khan has been a crucial figure in Pakistan’s T20 set-up. The 24-year-old has been the mainstay with the ball and also a useful contributor with the bat. He has scored 476 runs in 84 T20Is at a strike rate of 143.80 and picked up 98 scalps at an economy of 7.03. The ace all-rounder has been quite brilliant for the Men in Green in the T20Is this calendar year. Shadab has scored 201 runs in 20 matches at a dazzling strike rate of 154.61. With the ball, he has been at his consistent best, bagging 25 wickets at an excellent economy of 6.79. Wanindu Hasaranga Wanindu Hasaranga has been Sri Lanka’s premier spinner in the white-ball circuit for the last couple of years. The 25-year-old has featured in 52 T20Is and bagged 86 wickets at an economy of 6.67. Also, he has been more than handy with the bat and scored 473 runs at a strike rate of 120.05. In 2022, the ace spinner was the wrecker-in-chief for Sri Lanka in the shortest format of the game. Hasaranga bamboozled batters with his variations and bagged 34 wickets in 19 T20Is at an economy of 7.40. On the batting front, he played some vital cameos slotting in at the lower order and scored 154 runs at a strike rate of 120.31. Hasaranga was simply stunning at the T20 carnival in Australia and was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, bagging 15 wickets in eight games and that too at an excellent economy of 6.41. The team management will hope the Galle-born continues weaving his magic in the years to come. 9. Sam Curran Sam Curran has been a prominent figure in the T20 circuit. Be it in the international arena or the T20 leagues, he has made a mark with his all-round performances. The Northampton-born has played 145 games in the shortest format and bagged 149 wickets at an economy of 8.43. On the batting front, he has smashed 1731 runs at a strike rate of 135.65. Curran has improved as a bowler with each passing game and has become an integral part of England’s T20 set-up. The ace all-rounder played 19 T20Is this year and bagged 25 wickets at an economy of 7.56, which is brilliant considering he bowls a lot at the fag end of the innings. The left-arm pacer wreaked havoc with the ball in the T20 World Cup 2022, picking up 13 wickets in matches at an economy of 6.52. Curran was magnificent in the final showdown against Pakistan and took three wickets while giving away only 12 runs in four overs. The England all-rounder was adjudged the Player of the Match in the finals for his stellar performance and was also awarded the Player of the Tournament for his consistent bowling displays throughout the T20 extravaganza. 10. Joshua Little Joshua Little has been a regular feature for Ireland in the white-ball circuit. The ace pacer is a genuine wicket-taker and has displayed the ability to bowl at any phase of the game. He has played 22 ODIs and taken 33 wickets at an economy of 5.80. The 23-year-old has featured in 53 T20Is and picked up 62 wickets at an economy of 7.65. Little has been quite impeccable with the ball in 2022 and is the leading wicket-taker of the year with 39 scalps to his name in 26 matches at an economy of 7.58. He has made the ball talk at the start of innings and has also been impeccable with his variations at the death overs. The left-arm pacer also showed his bowling might at the grandest stage and bagged 11 wickets in seven games at an economy of 7.00, which includes a splendid hat-trick against New Zealand. He was skipper Andrew Balbirnie's go-to man for crunch situations and has delivered the goods on most occasions. He was at the forefront of a historic win against the eventual T20 World Champions, England, picking up two wickets while conceding just 16 runs. 11. Arshdeep Singh Arshdeep Singh made his India debut on July 2022 and has taken the international circuit by storm with his bowling performances since then. From a promising bowler hailing from Punjab to becoming India’s strike force at the grandest stage, the 23-year-old has come quite a long way. The left-arm pacer has featured in 21 T20Is and bagged 33 wickets at an economy of 8.17. He has been remarkable with the new ball, troubling batters with the swing and also been stellar at the slog overs, nailing yorkers at will. With India’s pace-spearhead Jasprit Bumrah out of the T20 World Cup due to injury, the responsibility on the 23-year-old was huge but he did not succumb under pressure and delivered. Arshdeep featured in six games at the marquee tournament and picked 10 wickets at an economy of 7.80. One of his astounding performances came against the eternal rivals Pakistan, when he picked three wickets for 32 runs in his full quota of four overs. Arshdeep’s coming of age has been the biggest positive for the Men in Blue this calendar year and the team management would hope the youngster garners more success going forward.
