Australia will look to add another feather to their illustrious cap in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting February 19 in Karachi. The two-time champions, having lifted the title in 2006 and 2009, have had their share of success in this prestigious tournament. The Aussies have been placed in Group B alongside England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.

Australia will kick off their campaign against arch-rivals England on February 22 in Lahore. They will then go on to face South Africa on February 25 in Rawalpindi and will fly back to Lahore for their final group game, against Afghanistan on February 28.

In the 2006 edition, the side defeated West Indies under rain-affected conditions in Mumbai, and again in 2009 with Shane Watson’s brilliance sealing victory against New Zealand in South Africa. Australia's recent success in the 50-over format came in 2023 when they lifted their sixth ODI World Cup, as they defeated hosts India on November 19th in the grand Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Enough said, let's have a look at the best squad of the Aussies for the upcoming ICC event.

Australia's Predicted squad for Champions Trophy 2025:

Australia’s top order for the competition will feature Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, Matthew Short, and Marnus Labuschagne. Marsh, the ODI vice-captain and a brilliant all-rounder, is expected to open alongside Head. Despite a recent form dip in Test cricket, Marsh will be a crucial member of Australia’s white-ball setup. The right-hander has returned to the BBL to fine-tune his form ahead of the tournament. Meanwhile, Labuschagne will walk in at No.3 and play the anchor's role. On the other hand, Short has found success in white-ball cricket and will travel as the backup opener.

Middle order - Steven Smith, Josh Phillipe, Josh Inglis (WK):

Steven Smith, Josh Philippe, and Josh Inglis will be part of the former champions' middle order for this season. Smith, will take the anchor's role along with Labuschagne. Despite a decent record in the Champions Trophy, his experience will be crucial. Inglis will take the wicketkeeping duties and has also made a place for himself in the team over recent years. Philippe, though relatively new with only three ODIs and 65 runs at an average of 21.67, will strengthen the batting options.

All-rounders - Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis:

Australia's middle order will be strengthened by the experienced duo of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Maxwell, recovering from an injury sustained during the ODIs against Pakistan, will be a crucial asset with his batting and handy off-spin. Stoinis, rested in recent matches, will provide play as a pinch hitter at the end and seam-bowling option. Both players will look to deliver once again for the Aussies.

Bowlers - Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson, Sean Abbott:

The bowling attack will see the return of the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood in the 50-over format. Adam Zampa will lead the spin department, and be crucial support on subcontinent pitches. Sean Abbott and Spencer Johnson will be the backup options in case of any injuries. While Australia may also consider Jhye Richardson as Hazlewood's backup. Injuries to key players like Cummins and Hazlewood remain a concern, but with strong seam-bowling all-rounders and spin options, Australia is well-equipped to challenge for the title.

Australia's Probable Squad for Champions Trophy 2025:

Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, Matthew Short, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Josh Phillipe (WK), Josh Inglis (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson, Sean Abbott
