Five players who do not represent their IPL-owned franchises in the SA20 League

Franchise cricket is spreading its wings rapidly nowadays and the presence of leagues worldwide corroborates this fact. In 2008, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) was started, cricket supporters were watching a new concept where franchises were introduced in a cricketing competition and auctions were introduced to buy players. This unique concept attracted a lot of cricket supporters and currently, IPL is the most successful cricket league in the world. Following the success of the IPL, some cricket boards started their leagues to develop themselves monetarily. In 2022, Cricket South Africa launched the SA20 League where some IPL franchises bought teams and marked their presence globally. The IPL franchises in the Protea League have fetched some names who are serving them in the cash-rich league. However, there are a lot of players that represent two different franchises and it’s time to know five prominent names who aren’t associated with their IPL franchises in the SA20 League. Here are five players who aren’t associated with their IPL franchises in the SA20 League 5. Heinrich Klaasen Heinrich-Klaasen. (Photo Source: Twitter) South Africa's wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen is known for his aggressive batting style in the middle order. In the maiden SA20 League auction in September 2022, the wicket-keeper batter became a part of Durban’s Super Giants (DSG). Three months later, he went under the hammer in the 2023 IPL auction and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) signed him up for INR 5.25 crore. In the 2022-23 SA20 season, he ended up as the fourth-leading run-getter with 363 runs in nine innings of ten matches at a strike rate of 164.25. While donning SRH’s jersey in the 2023 IPL edition, he looked superb with his bat, notching up 448 runs with a century in 12 matches. With these numbers, he was the leading run-scorer for the Orange Army in the season. 4. David Miller David-Miller. (Photo Source: Twitter) David Miller has been a vital member of Gujarat Titans (GT) since 2022 as he reinforces the team’s batting unit with his batting in the middle-order. Until 2021, the Protea southpaw was a part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Serving the 2008 IPL champions in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, he failed to be effective with his bat. Following his dismal performance in 2021, RR parted ways with him before the 2022 auction. However, after a few months, Miller featured in RR’s Paarl Royals’ pre-auction pick before the first SA20 League auction. Serving Paarl since 2022, he has scored 345 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 134.76. 3. Sam Curran Sam-Curran. (Photo Source: Twitter) England all-rounder Sam Curran plays for Mumbai Indians’ owned MI Cape Town in the SA20 League. Back in 2022, the franchise roped him into their squad before the maiden SA20 auction. In December 2022, he scripted history as Punjab Kings (PBKS) snapped him up for a whopping sum of INR 18.50 crore. The massive amount made him the costliest player in IPL until December 19, 2023. Playing for MI Cape Town in the inaugural SA20 League season, he got only eight wickets in nine matches at an economy of 8.85. Similarly, he looked ordinary for PBKS in the 2023 IPL, racking up only ten wickets and 276 runs in 14 games. However, both franchises have continued their contracts with the English player for further seasons despite his underwhelming performances. 2. Rashid Khan Rashid-Khan. (Photo Source: Twitter) Like Miller, Rashid Khan is also a pivotal part of GT in IPL but he also represents a different franchise in the SA20 League. The Afghanistan wrist-spinner is the captain of MI Cape Town (MICT). Under his leadership, MICT failed to wonders in the maiden SA20 League instalment as they concluded their campaign at the bottom of the points table. As a bowler, he grabbed nine wickets in ten matches at an economy of 6.92. The Afghan stalwart has done an exceptional job for GT in the IPL, picking up 46 wickets in 33 matches at an economy of 7.43. These numbers also make him the second-leading wicket-taker for the Titans. 1. Faf du Plessis Faf-du-Plessis. (Photo Source: Twitter) Faf du Plessis has been serving Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since 2022 but avid Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans still recall his stint with their team. Playing for CSK from 2011 to 2021, the Protea batter played numerous match-winning knocks for Chennai and delivered some unforgettable memories to CSK supporters. The Protea veteran was released from the Super Kings after the 2021 season but a year later, he was seen playing for CSK’s Joburg Super Kings’ (JSK) in the first edition of the SA20 League. In JSK colours, he looked majestic with his bat, scoring 369 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 147.60. However, he couldn’t win the trophy for his team as a captain.
