ICC World Cup 2023: Team-wise prize money awarded by the ICC

The 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup finished on Sunday, November 19, in Ahmedabad. Australia were declared winners for the sixth time after their six-wicket victory over hosts India at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium. It was an emphatic victory for the Pat Cummins-led side. Chasing a modest 241 to win, Australia completed the target with seven overs to spare, thanks to Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's (58 not out) half-century, which boosted Australia from a worrisome 47/3 to turn the tables on Team India. Earlier India was asked to bat first and on a difficult pitch to bat in Ahmedabad, they struggled to gather any momentum. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored fifties while skipper Rohit Sharma gave a flying start with 47 in 31 balls. Despite that, Team India could only post 240 runs on the board. They had a very good time in the tournament as they managed two victories with one of those coming against South Africa. This was their second win over South Africa in an ICC event, as they had beaten them in the T20 World Cup last year. They also defeated Bangladesh in the tournament. As a team that was eliminated in the league stage itself, the Netherlands got $ 100,000 as the group stage money and $80,000 for the two wins at $40,000 per win. They began by losing their first three matches including one against Pakistan where they posted 344/9. South Africa also hammered them for a World Cup record team total of 428/5 in Delhi. Sri Lanka’s two wins came against the Netherlands and England. As a result, their ICC World Cup 2023 payout came to $180,000. This included the $100,000 as the group stage money and $80,000 for the two wins. 8. Bangladesh Bangladesh Team. They started well with a win over Afghanistan, but then, it just fell apart for them. They lost 6 games in a row, including one to the Netherlands. They did defeat Sri Lanka in their penultimate match but finished the tournament with a loss to Australia. This meant that Bangladesh was awarded $80,000 for the two wins in the league stage and $100,000 as the group stage money, totalling their amount to $180,000 7. England England. However, their defence went from bad to worse as they kept losing matches at an alarming rate. They, for the first time ODIs, lost to Afghanistan as well. Their only wins in the league stage came against Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Pakistan. Given that they won 3 matches in the league stage, England won $120,000 for those wins and with the $100,000 for the group stage money, their total sum came up to $220,000. Moreover, at one point in time, were in contention for the semi-finals as well. They defeated three former World Cup winners in Sri Lanka, England, and Pakistan and almost got the better of Australia as well. Their prize money came to a total of $260,000. $160,000 came from the four wins in the league stage and $100,000 was the group stage money. 5. Pakistan Pakistan Cricket Team. But then the wheels fell off their tourney as they lost four straight matches to India, Afghanistan, Australia, and South Africa. They tried to mount a comeback but failed to qualify for the semis. In the end, they finished with 4 wins out of 9 matches, earning $160,000 for those victories and adding $100,000 group stage money, Pakistan earned a total of $260,000. New Zealand India and New Zealand (photo Source: twitter) It was heartbreak for New Zealand once more as they were dominated in the semi-final by India with a huge 70-run win as the Men in Blue had put up a mammoth 397 runs on the board. In the league stage, the Kiwis began by winning the first four matches effortlessly. But then they lost their next four and had to win the final league match to qualify for the semis. This meant that apart from the $900,000 prize money for reaching the semi-finals, New Zealand also got $200,000 for the 5 wins in the league stage, with their total coming out to $1 million. 3. They only lost to India and surprisingly Netherlands, who seem to have a number on them. However, a familiar story continued for Proteas as they couldn’t cross the knockout barrier into the final. South Africa lost to Australia in the semis despite having a huge fight. As a result, South Africa got $280,000 for their seven wins in the league stage and $800,000 for reaching the semis. A total prize money of $1.08 million was earned by South Africa. 2. India Indian-Team. However, in the final, they were well way short of a victory against a determined Australian team. It was a heartbreaking moment to see all Indian players with tears in their eyes. However, thanks to their 9 wins in league stages, India earned $360,000 and added $2 million for being the runners-up, the Men in Blue earned a total of $2.36 million. It was a brilliant outing for Pat Cummins and his men. As for their earnings, Australia got $4 million for winning the World Cup. Besides, the Men in Yellow also won $280,000 for their seven wins in the league stage. In totality, the World champions’ total earnings came to $4.28 million.
