Mohammed Shami was an integral part of India’s fast-bowling unit in the 2019 World Cup, along with Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar. The veteran speedster played only four matches in the competition and grabbed 14 wickets at an economy of 5.48. Against Afghanistan, he appeared for the first time in the playing XI.

While defending the average total of 224 for the team, he picked up a hattrick in the last over of the match to take India home by 11 runs. Against England, he grabbed a fifer in his 10-over spell and delivered his best bowling performance in the competition. Following the match against Bangladesh at Edgbaston, he was dropped from the side.

In the upcoming World Cup edition, the ace pacer will be a key player in the team as his responsibility will be to strengthen the fast-bowling unit with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Currently, he is the most experienced pacer in the Indian team as he has been active in ODI cricket since January 2013.
