3. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s acquisition of Harry Brook for INR 13.25 crore
Harry Brook has been a bankable name in the T20 arena. The 23-year-old has taken the attack to the opposition right from the get-go and dismantled bowling attacks for fun. He has featured in 99 games in the shortest format and smashed 2432 runs at a strike rate of 148.38.
The youngster has also taken the international circuit by storm with his spectacular performances. Brook has played 20 T20Is and hammered 372 runs at a strike rate of 137.77. He also showed his batting prowess in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan and smashed 468 runs in three games. Brook’s stocks were on a meteoric rise and Sunrisers Hyderabad went hammer and tongs to rope him into their side. However, SRH ended up splurging a whopping sum of INR 13.25 crore, which might be way too much.
The Yorkshire-born brings only one dimension into play and also does not have a great deal of experience of playing in high-pressure environments, having played 24 matches for England across formats. SRH could have used the large sum to acquire top-quality multi-faceted cricketers and improve the balance of the side.
