2. Lucknow Super Giants spending INR 16 crore for Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran is a ferocious striker of the cricket ball and has proven his mettle in T20 leagues around the world. The West Indies batter has featured in 256 matches and amassed 4942 runs at a strike rate of 141.15. He has been superb in the cash-rich league and smashed 912 runs in 47 games at a strike rate of 151.24.

Lucknow Super Giants, having released Evin Lewis ahead of IPL 2023 auction, looked at Pooran to fill the void. Therefore, LSG went after the wicketkeeper-batter at the auction and grabbed him at a staggering sum of INR 16 crore.

Pooran has not been at his best of forms in the T20 circuit. In the Caribbean Premier League 2022, he scored only 108 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 117.39. The southpaw was awful with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2022 too and managed just 25 runs in three games at a strike rate of 86.20. Given Pooran has not fared well in the T20 tournaments of late, the Lucknow franchise spending such an eye-popping sum for the ace batter was not an intelligent decision.
