IPL 2023: 5 Players Gujarat Titans might release ahead of mini-auction
Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals to win the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League.
2. Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar has wealth of experience in the T20 circuit. The ace all-rounder has played 115 matches and notched up 1733 runs at a strike rate of 124.58. On the bowling front, he has taken 33 wickets at an economy of 8.22. GT picked the 31-year-old at the previous IPL auction to add depth to their side.
The Gujarat franchise entrusted the Tamil Nadu-born to provide solidity to the middle order. However, he failed to repay the faith and had a horror show with the bat. In four matches, Shankar could only score 19 runs at a strike rate of 54.29 and did not have any impact with the ball either.
Following his dismal outings, the 31-year-old was dropped from the side. Sai Sudharsan was drafted in his place and the youngster made the most of the opportunities. He scored 145 runs in five games at a strike rate of 127.19.
The youngster has been in a rich vein of form lately and amassed 336 runs in ten matches at the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2022. GT are likely to stick with the middle-order batter and this could mean the end of the road for Shankar.
