IPL 2023: 5 Players Rajasthan Royals might release ahead of upcoming mini-auction
Rajasthan Royals were the runners-up in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League
1. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell has been a proven performer for New Zealand across formats. When it comes to the T20I circuit, he has amassed 657 runs in 35 matches at a sensational strike rate of 141.59. The 31-year-old is flexible to slot in at any position and can also give a few overs with the ball.
RR decided to put their money on the Kiwi player for the 2022 season. However, with Jos Buttler being sensational at the top and Shimron Hetmyer acing the role of a finisher, Mitchell could not get many games. He was drafted in to fill the all-rounder's void but he could not do justice to the role.
And in the two matches he played, the middle-order batter struggled to get going and scored 33 runs at a poor strike rate of 75.00. Besides the horror show with the bat, Mitchell leaked runs at an economy of 13.50. After the poor outings, he was dropped from the team and was not given another run.
With top-class all-rounders like Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes expected to feature in the upcoming mini-auction, Rajasthan might look to release Mitchell and free up an overseas slot.
