IPL 2023: 5 SRH Players who might be benched throughout season

Last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad did some drastic changes to do well in the 2022 IPL edition. The franchise also cut ties with its most successful player, David Warner, who won them the title in 2016 with his leadership skills. However, things didn’t change for them as SRH ended at the eighth position in the last year’s competition. With six triumphs and eight defeats in 14 games, SRH failed to leave an impact in the tournament under Kane Williamson. In November 2022, they released Williamson too, after his flop show in the previous edition. This year, they will look to have a great season with some influential names such as Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, Adil Rashid, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen. However, their presence might bench newcomers looking to make their debuts in the upcoming competition. Here are 5 SRH players who might be benched throughout the season 5. Nitish Kumar Reddy This mini-auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped in Andhra Pradesh cricketer, Nitish Kumar Reddy, at his base price of INR 20 lakh. In the IPL, he will look to be efficient for the franchise using his first-class experience. So far, he has racked up 84 runs and 19 wickets for Andhra in six first-class matches. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament, he looked solid with his medium-fast bowling taking 18 wickets in five matches. However, these impressive figures might not convince his IPL franchise to include him in the playing XI. Currently, SRH have a fantastic Indian fast bowlers that includes names such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan. These three pacers were magnificent for the franchise in the last season, as they shared 52 wickets among each other. With the availability of these three pacers, Reddy might not find a spot in SRH’s playing XI. 4. Mayank Dagar Mayank Dagar was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the mini-auction for INR 1.8 crore. The franchise got involved in a bidding battle with Rajasthan Royals (RR) to get his services in the upcoming tournament. The 26-year-old has represented Himachal Pradesh in a lot of first-class games. The youngster also represented India in the Under-19 World Cup 2016 along with Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sarfaraz Khan, and Washington Sundar. In the 2018 IPL mega-auction, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought him at INR 20 lakh, but the youngster didn’t get a chance to appear in any of the matches in the whole competition. In the 2023 auction, he got picked up due to his impressive bowling shows in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 and Ranji Trophy 2022-23. However, this year too, he might warm benches for the whole season as SRH could prefer experienced spinners Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma over him. 3. Upendra Singh Yadav Considering the brilliant batting numbers of Upendra Singh Yadav in first-class matches, SRH invested INR 25 lakh in him. The wicket-keeper batter scored 1,411 runs in 33 first-class matches with four centuries and six fifties. These magnificent batting numbers helped him to get his maiden IPL contract. Playing for Railways in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23, he was the second-leading run-scorer for his team with 179 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 126.95. Later in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he contributed to his team’s victory with a couple of half-centuries. Although he has done well for Railways in the domestic circuit, he might not make it to the playing XI of SRH in the upcoming competition. His inclusion in the 11-men squad becomes more unlikely as Heinrich Klaasen and Glenn Philips are favourites to fulfill the role of a wicket-keeper batter in the matches. 2. Sanvir Singh For the 26-year-old Sanvir Singh, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 was amazing as he showcased his class with the bat notching up 119 runs for Punjab in 10 matches at a stellar strike rate of 205.17. Later, at the mini auction in Kochi, his hard work paid off as SRH grabbed him at his base price of INR 20 lakh. In domestic cricket, Singh has delivered a lot of match-winning performances for his team with his incredible all-round talent. In 15 domestic T20 contests, he has smashed 151 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 186.41. Currently, he is an impactful batter for Punjab due to his match-finishing skills. Despite doing well in domestic cricket, he might not get a chance to debut for SRH in the IPL season ahead. For the forthcoming tournament, the franchise has some incredible batting and all-round figures that might keep Singh away from SRH XI. Their availability might overshadow his presence in the team. 1. Akeal Hosein This year, Akeal Hosein will look to make his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after getting signed at the 2023 auction for INR 1 crore. The 29-year-old is a renowned name in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) due to his incredible spin-bowling potential. In international cricket, he has shown his incredible side picking up 25 wickets for the West Indies in 32 matches at an economy of 7.03. With his immense T20I and league experience, he can help SRH to win important games in the league games. However, Hosein will face stiff competition to enter the SRH playing XI due to the presence of spinners Adil Rashid and Mayank Markande.
