IPL 2023: 5 Teams that might pick Cameron Green in auction

Cameron Green has taken the international circuit by storm with his spectacular performances. The 23-year-old has featured in 13 ODIs and scored 290 runs at a strike rate of 90.34. On the bowling front, he has bagged 11 wickets at an economy of 5.03. In the T20Is, the ace all-rounder has played eight matches thus far and smashed 139 runs at a stunning strike rate of 173.75. Also, he has picked up five scalps in the shortest format. The Australian all-rounder will enter the IPL 2023 auction and has kept himself in the INR 2 crore bracket. This will be the first time he will take part in the marquee event. Green has been a match-winner for Australia with both bat and ball across formats and many franchises would like to have him at their disposal. Here are the five teams that might target Cameron Green at the auction: 5. Sunrisers Hyderabad Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disappointing campaign in the 15th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament. They failed to string consecutive wins under their belt and finished the league stage at the eighth position with six victories in 14 games. Following a poor season, SRH let go of 12 players from their squad, which includes Kane Williamson. The Kiwi batter had a miserable campaign last season and could score only 216 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 93.51. The release list also comprised Romario Shepherd, who was quite mediocre with his performances. Though the West Indies all-rounder did a decent job with the bat and scored 58 runs in three games at a strike rate of 141.46, he conceded runs at an economy of 10.89. The release of both Williamson and Shepherd has created multiple voids in the SRH camp i.e. the need for a top-order batter and a multi-faceted player. Hence, the team management might eye Green as Australia's all-round prodigy fulfills both requirements. The 23-year-old has been phenomenal in the T20Is at the opening slot and thus, could be a great option to partner Abhishek Sharma at the top. Also, Green is a wily customer with the ball and can play the role of a fifth bowler for SRH. Therefore, the Hyderabad franchise could go all guns blazing to sign him at the marquee event. 4. Punjab Kings Punjab Kings signed Odean Smith at the 2022 mega auction to fill the all-round void in the team. However, the West Indies all-rounder failed to deliver the goods with both bat and ball. The 26-year-old could manage mere 51 runs in six games at a strike rate of 115.91 and conceded runs at an alarming rate of 11.87. Following Odean’s awful outings, the Punjab franchise released him from the squad. The team management also moved past Benny Howell ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. Presently, PBKS does not have gun seam-bowling all-rounders on their side. Though they have Rishi Dhawan in the mix, the 32-year-old was quite awful with the bat last season scoring just 37 runs in six games at a strike rate of 92.50. Punjab will enter the auction with INR 32.2 crore in their kitty and they could invest a major chunk of the money in signing top-drawer all-rounders at the marquee event. The think tank could try to pick someone like Green, who has shown his all-round might in the international arena time and time again. Rajasthan Royals Rajasthan Royals acquired the services of James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell for the 2022 season to bring balance to the side with their all-round prowess. However, neither of them was able to set the cash-rich league on fire with their performances. Neesham could manage 31 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 114.81 and was not able to have any impact with the ball. Talking about Mitchell, he scored mere 33 runs in two games at a strike rate of 75.00. With the Kiwi all-rounders failing to make the most of the opportunities, the Rajasthan management decided to move past them. RR lack multi-faceted cricketers in their squad and so, they are likely to go shopping for top-drawer all-rounders at the IPL 2023 auction. Given Green’s stocks in the international arena have been on an exponential rise of late, the Rajasthan franchise could raise their paddle to sign him at the marquee event. 2. Mumbai Indians Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League, having won the tournament on five occasions. However, they were a pale shadow of their vintage self in the 15th edition and ended the league stage at the bottom-most position, with four wins in 14 matches. One of the reasons for their poor season was their misfiring overseas all-rounders. Mumbai retained Kieron Pollard for the 2022 season and MI would have expected big things from him. However, the T20 giant was far from his best and could only score 144 runs in 11 games at a poor strike rate of 107.46. On the bowling front, he could take just four wickets at an economy of 8.93. MI also had Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams in the last edition. Though the Milperra-born fared well with the ball picking up 13 scalps in 11 games, he was quite mediocre with the bat scoring mere 38 runs at a strike rate of 105.56. Ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, Mumbai parted ways with Sams while Pollard retired from the cash-rich league. With the duo released, MI will require seam-bowling all-rounders at their disposal and they could look to add Green in the mix. The youngster has been brilliant in the T20I arena and thus, the five-time IPL champions might target him at the auction. 1. Lucknow Super Giants Lucknow Super Giants roped in Jason Holder for the 15th edition of the cash-rich league to add depth to the side. However, he was not able to perform as per the expectations. Holder took 14 wickets in 12 games but gave away runs at an economy of 9.42. On the batting front, he scored just 58 runs at a strike rate of 131.82. LSG spent a staggering sum of INR 8.75 crore at the 2022 mega auction to acquire Holder's services and would have expected more from him. So, the team management decided against retaining the 31-year-old. Therefore, the Lucknow franchise will head into the auction seeking a quality seam-bowling all-rounder and they could ponder over including Green. The 23-year-old has shown his versatility to bat at the top order and also the middle order and thus, gives a team more options with the bat. With the ball, Green can make the ball talk at the start of the innings and also can act as an enforcer in the middle overs. Therefore, the Australian all-rounder is a valuable addition to any side and LSG could go hammer and tongs to sign him at the auction.
