IPL 2024: 5 base price players who justified their price tags in tournament's three weeks

In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Dubai, illustrious players such as Mitchell Starc, Daryl Mitchell, Harshal Patel, and Alzarri Joseph got big bucks but witnessing the cricketing action in the tournament, so far, it’s been seen that these huge names are struggling to justify their price tags. On one hand, star players are failing to play as per their reputation while on the other hand, some names who got snapped up for their base prices in the business extravaganza are doing their jobs exceptionally in this competition. Talking about some of them, here are five players who were sold at their base amount in the auction but have performed fabulously for their respective sides. Here are five players who justified their price tags after the third week - 5. Angkrish Raghuvanshi Angkrish Raghuvanshi. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Angkrish Raghuvanshi was picked up for his basic amount of INR 20 lakh by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2024 auction in Dubai. The 18-year-old has put up decent numbers for KKR, scoring 78 runs in two innings of three matches at a strike rate of 173.33. Against Delhi Capitals (DC), he played a stupendous 54-run knock off 27 deliveries and made his debut innings in the league memorable. Noting his batting numbers thus far, the KKR team management will expect him to be at his best in further contests. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who became a part of Gujarat Titans (GT) for his maximum reserved amount of INR 50 lakh, has done a commendable job with the ball. Against Mumbai Indians (MI), he had figures of 2/27 in his three-over spell and played a vital role in GT’s intriguing six-run win. Similarly, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, he bowled a tight spell to contain the Orange Army to restrict to a score of 162. Bowling a three-over spell, he splurged only 24 runs and also delivered the first breakthrough to his side in the form of Mayank Agarwal. 3. Tristan Stubbs Tristan Stubbs. (Source -Getty Images) South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs has exuded confidence with his bat for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the competition. Appearing in five matches, he has scored 174 runs at a strike rate of 193.33 with two half-centuries and is also the leading run-getter for the Capitals. In his team’s defeats against Rajasthan Royals (RR), KKR, and MI, he stood tall against bowlers and displayed his fighting spirit. Against MI, the 23-year-old notched up an unbeaten 71 off just 25 and recorded his best score in the cash-rich league. DC reserved the Proteas' services in the 2024 IPL auction for his basic amount of INR 50 lakhs. 2. Phil Salt Phil Salt. After getting unsold at the business event in Dubai, Kolkata signed up the England opener for his basic amount of INR 1.5 crore, as a replacement for his compatriot Jason Roy. The right-handed batter has played four games and has hit 102 runs with a fifty against SRH in his team’s opening contest. Against RCB, he continued his excellent run, producing an effective knock of 30 runs off just 20 balls. His batting efforts have played an instrumental role in helping Kolkata to be among the top four in the points tally, so far. 1. Mustafizur Rahman Mustafizur Rahman (Source -CSK) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fetched Bangladesh speedster Mustafizur Rahman for his starting price of INR 2 crore in the 2024 IPL auction. The Bangla pacer has racked up nine wickets in four games of the competition and is the highest wicket-taker for the defending champions. In the inaugural game of the tournament, CSK hammered Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets and Rahman became the Player of the Match for his stunning bowling (4/29 figures in his four overs). In his extraordinary spell, he got the better of RCB’s key batters Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli, and Cameron Green.
