IPL 2024: DC vs RR Match 56 - Top 3 player battles to watch out for

Delhi Capitals (DC) eye payback on Tuesday (May 7) as they are set to host the formidable Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 56 of the IPL 2024. Rishabh Pant and Co. are heading to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a must-win clash to keep themselves alive in the tournament.

Royals, who won their previous encounter against DC in Jaipur by 12 runs, are just one win away from officially securing a playoff berth. Sanju Samson’s team are in tremendous form with eight wins from 10 matches and sitting second on the points table. Meanwhile, Delhi are currently sixth in the standings with five wins from 11 matches.

It was Riyan Parag’s heroic knock of 45-ball 84 that helped RR secure a convincing win in the earlier fixture. Chasing 186, DC were restricted to 173/5, although David Warner and Tristan Stubbs fought hard. The Delhi Stadium had produced an aggregate score of over 500 runs when the home team and Mumbai Indians last week. Expect another enthralling batting episode during the Royals' visit.

3. Rishabh Pant vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Rishabh Pant is the backbone of DC's middle order. He has been leading the team from the front with nearly 400 runs at an average of 44.22 and a strike rate of 158.57. Pant is expected to continue his blistering form but will face challenges from the RR spinners.

Veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will be assigned to mark the left-hander as the duo will share space in the middle overs. Chahal has dismissed his compatriot twice in the IPL, one of them in the previous encounter this season. Meanwhile, the DC captain has scored 81 runs in 56 deliveries in their battle.

2. Jos Buttler vs Khaleel Ahmed

Jos Buttler has had an inconsistent campaign so far this season, but once he settles down at the crease, he will wreak maximum havoc. He has scored two centuries and won both those matches single-handedly for the Royals. DC are well aware of the threat and would want to get rid of the RR opener early in the innings. 

Khaleel Ahmed will be up against Buttler in the Powerplay. The left-arm pacer has the knack of picking up wickets in the initial overs and will aim to add one more to the tally on Tuesday. Notably, Khaleel has dismissed the Englishman once across five IPL meetings and conceded only 53 runs in 38 balls.

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk vs Trent Boult

This is the most intriguing and perhaps the match-winning battle in the upcoming contest. Jake Fraser-McGurk has been taunting the bowlers with his ferocious power-hitting in the powerplay this season. The right-hander's last innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is notable for his 84 off 27 balls.

If the Royals manage to get his wicket in the initial overs, their job is half-done. And who better to take this responsibility than Trent Boult? The Kiwi pacer has an astonishing record in the powerplay and can take wickets in the first over of an innings. He has done that magic five times this season and is hoping to make it six in the upcoming match.
