IPL 2024: Ranking 10 teams based on their final squads

The IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai for the first time and the Coca-Cola Arena saw 333 players go under the hammer to fill up 77 spots. Out of these, 30 spots were for overseas players. However, a total of 72 spots were only filled. The latest IPL auction changed team dynamics, infusing each club with new talent and strategies. Assessing the power of these redesigned teams necessitates a thorough examination of their additions, retained players, and potential synergy. Here’s a look at the best teams in the IPL 2024: 10. Rajasthan Royals (RR): Rajasthan Royals. (Photo Source: Twitter) Rajasthan Royals (RR) spent 90% of their purse on only two players Rovman Powell and Shubham Pandey. They were left with little to buy a proper Indian or overseas all-rounder. Like IPL 2023, they will play with Riyan Parag as the closest thing to a proper all-rounder. For RR, the size of 22 is the smallest among the ten teams. This might come to haunt them in crunch situations. 9. Delhi Capitals (DC) Delhi Capitals. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Delhi Capitals (DC) have a decent squad to boot for, but in the IPL 2024 auction, their single goal seemingly looked like buying backup wicketkeepers for Rishabh Pant. No attention was given to their brittle batting order which depends heavily on David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. They have no Indian opening backup for Prithvi Shaw and their prime bowlers in the form of Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, are dealing with persistent injuries. 8. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) RCB Qatar Airways. (Photo Source: RCBTweets) Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) plugged a huge hole in their squad which has kept them from winning an IPL trophy in this auction. They purchased some very good fast bowlers including Lockie Ferguson in the accelerated round. Now they have a wonderful pace lineup of Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Tom Curran to assist Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley. But where they plugged a huge hole, they dug up another, as after releasing Wanindu Hasaranga, RCB couldn’t find another top match-winner spinner to replace him. This now means RCB’s spin options in IPL 2024 will be Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Mayank Dagar, and Himanshu Sharma. 7. Mumbai Indians (MI) Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants. (Photo Source: IPL) Getting back Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) in a massive trade has bolstered Mumbai Indian’s (MI) chances immensely in the IPL 2024. Mumbai Indians bought three very good overseas fast bowlers Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, and Nuwan Thushara to make up for Jofra Archer’s loss. However, their Achilles heel remains the lack of a quality finger-spinner or leg-spinner, particularly an Indian talent to back Piyush Chawla and Kumar Karthikeya. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made history by buying Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crore, making him the most expensive buy in IPL history. They have a stacked bowling lineup with a few inexperienced, but talented Indian bowlers. Adding Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Chetan Sakariya to the mix was a genius step. However, KKR failed to address their major reason for failure last season. Their batting still depends a lot on Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jason Roy at the top and Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer in the middle. However, they will have to depend on a makeshift Indian finisher to aid Andre Russell at the end of the innings. This lack of batting depth might hurt them in the IPL 2024. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Punjab Kings (PBKS) paid INR 11.75 crore to Harshal Patel and picked Rilee Russouw and Chris Woakes for handsome amounts as well. They have depended on the overseas player to do their work, while the lack of Indian talent will come to haunt them at one point. PBKS have a good batting lineup, but they have no one to replace Shahrukh Khan in the middle order. 4. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Lucknow Super Giants. However, it seems that KL Rahul might not open the innings this time and bat in the middle order to compensate for a lack of an Indian anchor batter. They also got a decent bowling lineup for themselves including good pacers and more than decent spinners. 3. Gujarat Titans (GT) Gujarat Titans. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Gujarat Titans (GT) recovered well from the jolt of losing their IPL-winning captain Hardik Pandya, who opted to be traded to Mumbai Indians. They have bought a couple of good buys in Spencer Johnson and Shahrukh Khan and tried to compensate for Pandya with Azmatullah Omarzai. GT's biggest strength remains their bowling led by Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan, but they will have a new captain in Shubman Gill. 2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Chennai Super kings. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) needed a dependable overseas all-rounder and they got it in Daryl Mitchell. However, instead of going for an experienced campaigner to replace Ambati Rayudu, CSK opted for untested Sameer Rizvi. One of their best buys was Shardul Thakur, who bolsters their bowling and hitting prowess. (Photo Source: IPL) Sunrisers Hyderabad had one of the best auctions ever in which they not only got very good batters but plugged a lot of holes in their bowling as well. They outbid everyone to get Pat Cummins for INR 20.50 crore. But they got the best pick of IPL 2024, as they bought Wanindu Hasaranga for his base price. This gives Washington Sundar a very good spin partner. They also got Travis Head for cheap and have some good backup bowlers for their frontline pacers and spinners.
