The Indian Premier League (IPL) will return with its 17th edition on March 22. Before the competition, all sides will strive to reinforce themselves in all departments of the game. In the previous season, some star players such as Shubman Gill, Faf du Plessis, Devon Conway, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and Rashid Khan performed exceptionally and ended up as the top performers. Faf du Plessis- Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Faf du Plessis Batting (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) South Africa player Faf du Plessis has done a fabulous job as a batter for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the past two seasons, ending up as the leading run-scorer for the team twice. This year, eyes will be set on the RCB skipper again. In the recently concluded SA20 League 2023-24, he exuded confidence with his bat, scoring 239 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 141.42. Noting the Protea veteran’s current form, Bangalore supporters will expect him to be at his best and deliver fierce starts to the team as an opening batter. 9. With 448 runs in 12 matches at a stellar strike rate of 177.07, he was the leading run-getter for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the season. In the SA20 League 2023-24, he racked up 447 runs from Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) in 13 matches at a strike rate of 207.90 and ended up as the second-highest run-scorer in the competition. In the previous year, the left-arm spinner played nine T20 International (T20I) games and took 14 wickets at a frugal economy of 5.96. The leggie will look to continue his brilliant form and spearhead DC’s spin-bowling unit confidently. 7. Nicholas Pooran- Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Nicholas Pooran. The 28-year-old was seen in fine touch with his bat for MI Emirates in the recently played 2023-24 International League (IL) T20. Playing 10 games, he scored 354 runs at an incredible strike rate of 170.19 and ended up as the second-leading run-getter in the competition. Pooran’s hard-hitting abilities will be crucial for LSG in the upcoming IPL instalment. 6. Liam Livingstone- Punjab Kings (PBKS) Liam Livingstone. The England stalwart is a vital member of Punjab Kings due to his superb power-hitting capability. In the upcoming season, the PBKS team management will expect him to score big runs for the team consistently. Riding on his talent, Punjab’s endeavour will be to win the title for the first time. In recent games, Livingstone struggled to be among the runs but noting his stature, the PBKS team management will be confident that the English player will justify his role as an all-rounder in the competition coming ahead. 5. As an opener, he did his job efficiently for Rajasthan Royals, ending up as the leading run-getter for the team with 625 runs in 14 contests at an excellent strike rate of 163.61. This time, KKR team supporters will expect him to show his formidable side again and take bowling attacks to the cleaners. Following the 2023 IPL, Rinku was seen in India jersey in the limited-overs formats. He grabbed those opportunities with both hands, playing some effective knocks for the side. 3. He has been outstanding in GT jersey since debuting for the franchise in 2022. Scalping 46 wickets in 33 games at a thrifty economy of 7.43, the leg-break bowler is the second-highest wicket-taker for Titans. In Mohammed Shami’s absence, Rashid will be seen spearheading GT’s bowling unit and his job will be to provide extraordinary numbers to the side. The 25-year-old is also capable of playing massive strokes which makes him an effective finisher. 2. Suryakumar Yadav- Mumbai Indians (MI) Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai Indians will want their key batter to continue his brilliant work in the upcoming IPL season. The right-handed batter will be seen in cricketing action after three months as he was out of Team India due to his ankle injury. Suryakumar’s endeavour will be to play an aggressive brand of cricket again in the 2024 IPL and reinforce MI’s middle order. His last game was a T20 International (T20I) against South Africa in Johannesburg, in which he smashed the fourth century of his international career. 1. The right-handed batter’s amazing batting efforts played a massive role in making CSK five-time champions. Gaikwad was exceptional with his bat for Maharashtra in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). He also notched up his maiden ton against Australia in Guwahati. CSK skipper MS Dhoni will want to extract match-winning knocks from him in the upcoming season.
