IPL: 5 cricketers whose careers ended with injuries
Most of these cricketers were huge icons in the international arena due to their immense contributions to their national teams.
3. Andrew Flintoff (2009) - Knee injury
In 2009, Andrew Flintoff along with his England teammate Kevin Pietersen became the most expensive player in the the IPL. Going through Flintoff’s glorifying career for his national side England, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had bought him at the mini-auction.
Playing in the league for the first time, Flintoff featured in the CSK playing XI for three games but couldn’t do much, scoring only 62 runs and picking up just two wickets at an expensive economy of 9.54. After his poor performance, he injured his knee and returned home.
In 2010, he was expected to join the team for the third season of the tournament but the dashing English all-rounder again injured his left knee. In September 2010, Flintoff retired from all forms of cricket, and with this, his IPL career also winded up with disappointment.
