IPL: 5 Instances when teams lost half their side during powerplay
Here are five instances when teams lost half of their batting force during powerplay overs.
3. Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK), IPL 2020
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have delivered a lot of intriguing contests in the last 15 years of the league. However, back in 2020, both teams clashed against each other in match 41 of IPL 2020, in which the Men in Blue outclassed the Yellow Army in all departments of the sport and made it a one-sided affair with their 10-wicket win.
Winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma invited CSK to bat first, and his decision worked as MI’s pace duo Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah came heavily on CSK’s batting unit with their ferocious bowling. Picking up five batters in the powerplay, both bowlers put Mumbai in the commanding position.
The damage inflicted during the first six overs didn’t allow CSK to make a comeback. In the end, Super Kings could rack up only 114 runs which weren’t enough to stop MI batters from clinching the game comfortably. Trent Boult, who spearheaded MI’s bowling from the front, bagged the Player of the Match award for his 4/18 figures in his four-over spell.
