IPL: 5 Instances when teams lost half their side during powerplay
Here are five instances when teams lost half of their batting force during powerplay overs.
4. Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Mumbai Indians (MI), IPL 2017
Mumbai Indians (MI) played a fierce brand of cricket in 2017 and won their third title. During their spectacular campaign, they also claimed the largest IPL (by runs) during the round-robin stage. Playing their eleventh match of the season against Delhi Capitals (DC), the Rohit Sharma-led side were put to bat first after losing the toss to the-then DC captain, Zaheer Khan.
Batting first, the visitors amassed 212 runs on the board as their West Indies batters Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard displayed a sensational show with their bats. Following the massive total, DC batters looked timid and lost their top five batters at a score of 35 in 5.5 overs.
After outclassing DC in the powerplay, Mumbai bowlers continued their attack and decimated Capitals on 66, which became their lowest IPL score. Lendl Simmons, who contributed 66 (43) runs in the sensational triumph against the hosts, won the Player of the Match award.
