IPL: 5 Players who faded away after a terrific season
These players were expected to become future stars of the cash-rich T20 tournament.
2. Saurabh Tiwary
Saurabh Tiwary played a key role in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) journey till the final in the 2010 IPL. Piling up 419 runs with three fifties in 16 contests at a fine strike rate of 135.59, he came out as the second-leading run-getter for his team, following his skipper Sachin Tendulkar. Riding on his unbeaten 52-run knock in the semi-final, MI bagged the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 35 runs.
His magnificent batting display in the season also helped him to make a debut for the Indian team in a One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia at home. Featuring in Indian colours, he struggled to be among the runs. In two innings of three international games, he scored only 49 runs.
Talking about his IPL journey after 2010, the Southpaw joined Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2011 and continued to play for the franchise till 2013. However, his batting numbers during the period were horrendous.
After representing Delhi Capitals (2014-15) and Rising Pune Supergiant (2016), he returned to MI in 2017 but his terrible phase with the bat didn’t end. In 2022, he failed to get any buyers at the 2022 mega auction, which adversely impacted his participation in the tournament.
