IPL: 5 Players who faded away after a terrific season
These players were expected to become future stars of the cash-rich T20 tournament.
1. Paul Valthaty
Paul Valthaty won the hearts of numerous cricket fans with his extraordinary batting display in 2011. Playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), he looked efficient as an opener. Along with his captain and opening partner Adam Gilchrist, he delivered fierce starts to the team throughout the competition.
In the league match against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he took his team home by five wickets, with his unbeaten 120-run knock off just 63 deliveries. Talking about his overall record, the right-handed batter smashed 463 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 136.98, he ended up as the second-highest run-getter for his team in the season.
With such outstanding batting numbers, he also made it to the list of top run-scorers in the competition. Taking note of his marvellous performance in the previous season, Punjab supporters were expecting him to deliver match-winning knocks to them in 2012 again. However, he failed to live up to the expectations in the new season, adding only 30 runs in six contests at a dismal strike rate of 58.82.
