IPL Auction 2024: 3 Players CSK might target as backup for MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni although not yet retired could soon leave CSK due to ongoing injury. The Chennai franchise would need able players to fill in the shoes soon.
MS Dhoni was retained by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. This led to a huge wave of joy amongst the CSK fans, knowing that their favourite ‘Thala’ will be playing one more season of the IPL.
However, as seen in the IPL 2023, MS Dhoni struggled a lot with fitness as he played on one knee. He has undergone knee surgery and is still recovering and rehabbing from the procedure. It remains to be seen how match fit MS Dhoni is before the IPL 2024 begins, given that that is the only cricket Dhoni plays in the year.
But with the IPL 2024 auction coming up, CSK officials will be thinking of the future after MS Dhoni. They will have their eye out for a few wicketkeeping options to replace the great man, once he’s done with IPL. Therefore, we take a look at three such options CSK can go after in IPL 2024 to be an understudy to Dhoni behind the stumps.
Here are 3 players CSK might target as backups for MS Dhoni in the IPL 2024 auction:
3. Narayan Jagadeesan
Narayan Jagadeesan has been one of the most prolific scorers in domestic cricket off late for Tamil Nadu. He was also an understudy to MS Dhoni for quite some time in the CSK franchise before he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders. He played 6 matches, but could score only 89 runs and as a result, was released by KKR for the IPL 2024 auction.
He is a very safe wicketkeeper behind the stumps and has a decent record in T20s, scoring 1195 runs in 59 games with 6 fifties. He has opened the innings and also played as a finisher when needed. Also, MS Dhoni has seen Jagadeesan closely during their time in CSK together which could help Jagadeesan's comeback to CSK.
