IPL Playoffs: Top 5 teams with most wins in history
In the 15-year-long history of the IPL, few teams have relished the challenge of the playoffs and crushed their opponents time and again.
The Indian Premier League season 16 has got off to a great start as the fans have welcomed the T20 extravaganza with great fervour. The tournament is expected to be even grander this year as it’s happening in the home and away format for the first time since 2019. Fans all over the world are rooting for their favourite franchises to take down their opposition and clinch the coveted title.
When it comes to winning the IPL Trophy, a few teams have perfected the art while the others are still struggling to clinch the title even once.
It takes a herculean effort from the teams to win a single match in the playoffs and get a step closer to the big prize as the playoffs test the true character of a team. The players have the extra added pressure of playing a knockout game and require tremendous fortitude to take their team out of a precarious situation.
In the 15-year-long history of the IPL, few teams have relished the challenge of the playoffs and crushed their opponents time and again with utmost ease in high pressure games. As the 16th season of the tournament continues to enthral the fans, let’s take a look at the top five teams with the most wins in the playoffs in IPL history:
5. Sunrisers Hyderabad (5 wins out of 11 matches)
Hyderabad didn’t have the best of the starts in IPL as they finished last on the points table in the inaugural edition. However, they turned things around in the second season and went on to win the tournament under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist.
After having a couple of below-par seasons in 2011 and 2012, they regained their form in 2013, under a new name, and once again qualified for the playoffs after three years. The 2009 champions had to wait for another seven years for their second title as David Warner inspired them to victory against the odds in 2016. To date, SRH are the only team to win the trophy after playing the Eliminator of the competition.
SRH have won five out of 11 matches in the playoffs and are the fifth most successful side. Having made several changes to their squad at the mega and mini-auction in 2022, the franchise would hope for another remarkable season from their players in the ongoing edition.
