Delhi Capitals (DC) have formed a fine bowling attack for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Before the auction in Dubai, the franchise retained bowling names Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. At the business event, they added Australia pacer Jhye Richardson to the squad after splurging INR 5 crore. With the balanced bowling unit, Delhi will strive to do wonders in the 2024 IPL edition. In the past, eminent bowlers such as Glenn McGrath, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Shami, Morne Morkel, Amit Mishra, and Imran Tahir served Capitals but the team’s bowling was never considered as powerful as those of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). In the upcoming competition, DC will look to put up a disciplined show with the ball and uplift their bowling attack’s image. In 2012, when DC topped the points tally in the round-robin stage with 11 wins, Yadav played a pivotal role with the ball. The speedster stepped up in DC’s last league game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala and guided his team to a convincing six-wicket win. Winning the toss, Delhi’s stand-in skipper Mahela Jayawardene elected to field first. On Dharamsala’s fine fast-bowling turf, Umesh Yadav came heavily on Punjab, sending openers Mandeep Singh and Adam Gilchrist back to the pavilion on their single-digit scores. Bowling his third over of the spell, he also got rid of David Hussey and helped his team to be in a dominating position. Riding on his 3/19 figures, DC contained Punjab on 141 and also chased down the low total comfortably with six wickets in hand. Pursuing a target of 174, the Chargers were looking comfortable until the 17th over of their innings as they required only 25 off 18, with six wickets in hand. Bhatia, who came to bowl the second over of his spell, did wonders for Delhi as he cleaned up dangerous Andrew Symonds and Dwayne Smith. After the dismissal of both batters, Ashish Nehra also looked confident and picked up Venugopal Rao, who could have helped the Chargers cross the line. In the final over of the game, Bhatia bowled out tailenders Pragyan Ojha and Shoaib Ahmed to take his team home. Kuldeep Yadav’s 4/14 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 Kuldeep Yadav ( Photo source: X / Twitter ) Kuldeep Yadav became a member of DC in 2022 and in his debut season for the 2020 runners-up, he recorded his best bowling innings of IPL against his former team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. At the iconic venue, Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl first. After the early fall of openers Aaron Finch and Venkatesh Iyer, Kuldeep picked up the scalps of Baba Indrajith and Sunil Narine to trouble KKR. The leggie’s next victim was Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer, who was striving to build a solid partnership with Nitish Rana and help Knight Riders recover from the disastrous start. Kuldeep also fetched the prized wicket of Andre Russell, who failed to open his account in the game. In his three-over spell, the spin wizard took 4/14 and helped his team restrict Kolkata to a low total of 146. Eventually, DC won the game by four wickets and Kuldeep became the Player of the Match. 2. In 2020, the South Africa pacer displayed his bowling mettle and won the Purple Cap. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2, he bowled an exceptional spell and helped Delhi register a 17-run win. In the knockout contest, DC posted 189 runs on the board with the sensational batting efforts of Shikhar Dhawan (78 off 50) and Marcus Stoinis (38 off 27). Defending the huge total, Rabada removed lethal David Warner on the first delivery of his spell. The early breakthrough from the Protea instilled confidence in Stoinis, who got the better of Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey within the first powerplay of SRH’s innings. In his final over, Rabada outclassed Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, and Shreevats Goswami and ended up as the leading wicket-taker in the match, with 4/29 figures in four overs. 1. The leg-break bowler achieved this feat against Deccan Chargers at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (now Arun Jaitley Stadium). Along with the Australia veteran pacer Glenn McGrath and Sri Lanka speedster Farveez Maharoof, Mishra looked disciplined and helped Capitals save a total of 194 successfully. In his fiery spell, he dismissed the Chargers’ key batters, Shahid Afridi and Herschelle Gibbs. In the last over of the contest, Mishra got the wickets of Dwaraka Ravi Teja, Pragyan Ojha, and RP Singh off consecutive deliveries and broke into the record books.
