9. Joe Root
Joe Root has been a run bank in the international circuit. The Yorkshire-born has featured in 127 games in the longest format and aggregated 10629 runs at an average of 49.43. Talking about the ODIs, he has scored 6207 runs in 158 matches at an average of 50.05.
England locked horns with India in the first game of the four-match Test series in February 2021 in Chennai. It was the then-England skipper Joe Root’s 100th Test match and on such a noteworthy occasion, he led the side from the front and amassed 218 runs off 377 deliveries.
Courtesy of Root’s phenomenal knock, England posted 578 runs on the board. India, in response, could only manage 337 runs in their first innings. The visitors ended up winning the game by 227 runs.
