Pakistan's underwhelming performance in this tournament has put their World Cup campaign in danger. With three victories in seven matches, the Men in Green are in the sixth position on the points table and to qualify for the knockout round, they need to win their remaining contests.
In week four, they lost to South Africa by one wicket in Chennai due to their poor batting show. Like their previous matches, Pakistan’s batters failed to bat for 50 overs against the Protea side as well. In this game, Pakistan included Mohammad Nawaz in their playing XI to add strength to their batting and spin department.
The 29-year-old came to bat at number eight and his responsibility was to accumulate runs at a brisk pace in the final overs. However, he could score only 24 runs from his bat and his dismissal cost Pakistan as they got bundled out on 270 with 20 balls remaining in their innings. Nawaz failed to create an impact for his team with the ball as well. Bowling 6.2 overs, he gave away 40 runs without picking up any wicket.
