ODI World Cup 2023: Flop XI of third week
In the competition’s third week, a lot of illustrious names failed to do their job efficiently, and talking about some, let’s have a look at the flop XI of week three of the tournament
5. Bas de Leede
The Netherlands have trusted Bas de Leede to reinforce their middle-order but he has not looked confident while serving the side. Against Sri Lanka in Lucknow, he came to bat at number four after the departure of the opening pair. He also witnessed Colin Ackermann’s dismissal at the other end on the last delivery of the 12th over.
With the fall of the top-order batters, de Leede had a chance to display his mettle with the bat and rescue his team. However, the right-handed batter also surrendered in front of Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling after facing 21 deliveries. After spending 11 minutes at the crease, he accumulated only six runs
In the second innings, Edwards gave him the ball while defending 263 runs but the 23-year-old leaked 29 runs in his three-over spell. Playing against Australia in Delhi, de Leede splurged 115 runs in his 10 overs and became the player to bowl the most expensive spell in Men’s ODI.
