ODI World Cup 2023: Flop XI of third week
In the competition’s third week, a lot of illustrious names failed to do their job efficiently, and talking about some, let’s have a look at the flop XI of week three of the tournament
6. Jos Buttler (c) & (wk)
Jos Buttler has not looked confident as batter and captain in this World Cup. Under his leadership, England have produced their worst performance in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments played after 2015. Currently, the English team is at the bottom of the points table with just one win in six matches.
Week three of the competition was the worst for the defending champions as they faced their biggest ODI defeat at the hands of South Africa in Mumbai. Following the 69-run beating against Afghanistan in Delhi, England were expected to make a comeback but the crushing defeat demoralised Buttler & Co.
At the Wankhede Stadium, when England were tasked to chase a humongous target of 400 against the Proteas, the English batting line-up completely crumbled under pressure. Buttler, who came at number six, also lost his wicket while attacking the bowlers. The wicketkeeper-batter went back to the pavilion after scoring 15 runs.
