England are defending the title in this World Cup under Jos Buttler. However, things won’t be easy for them in this competition as their record hasn’t been great in India. In the opening game against New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, the English side got a nine-wicket hammering.

On Ahmedabad’s batting paradise, England’s star-studded batting unit accumulated only 282 runs in 50 overs. Only Joe Root was the one from the batting line-up who spent time at the crease and displayed intention to fight against the Kiwi bowlers. The veteran scored 77 off 86 in the important match.

England won their first game of this competition against Bangladesh in Dharamshala. In this game, their top-order and middle-order came heavily on the Bangla bowlers and piled up 364 runs in 50 overs. Chasing the enormous total, Bangladesh capitulated on 227 in 48.2 overs.

In their third match of the tournament, England got a huge shock as Afghanistan defeated the 2019 champions posing a huge question for their World Cup defence. The entirety of the batting lineup failed, bar Harry Brook, as England failed to chase down even 284.
