The ODI World Cup 2023 delivered blockbuster cricketing action in its first week and cricket enthusiasts are expecting the competition to be more exciting in the next few weeks. It’s been just a week and fans saw some incredible records getting created and shattered in this competition. Players such as Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Kusal Perera, Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, and Devon Conway looked in amazing touch in the first week of the competition.

As a result, several records were shattered to create new history. In the same vein, some players and teams hit the headlines for shattering some old World Cup records and hitting new heights.

Here are some top records broken in the first week of the ODI World Cup 2023:

Aiden Markram grabbed a lot of eyeballs during his team's first ODI World Cup 2023 game against Sri Lanka in Delhi. The right-handed batter chalked up a 49-ball century against Dasun Shanaka and his boys and broke Ireland's Kevin O'Brien's record of a 50-ball hundred against England in the 2011 World Cup. The 29-year-old went back to the pavilion after scoring 106 runs off only 54 deliveries.

During his stupendous knock, he scored 17 boundaries (14 fours and three sixes). His relentless approach against bowlers played a crucial role in helping South Africa rack up a mammoth total of 428 runs on the board. Consequently, Markram's batting effort got him the Player of the Match award in his team's 102-run win.

Before Markram, AB de Villiers was the fastest centurion for South Africa in the World Cup. The 'Mr. 360' had wreaked havoc with his 52-ball ton against the West Indies. He achieved the memorable feat at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the 2015 edition of the ODI World Cup.
