The rise of Harshal Patel restricted Shardul’s chances in the shortest format. In the amount of opportunites he had, the Mumbai pacer was not able to make a mark with his performances. As a result, Harshal pipped the 30-year-old in the race to the World Cup.

With an intense auditioning for the wicket-keeper slot, the Kerala batter was contesting for a backup batter position. Deepak Hooda had a stellar campaign in the IPL and for India as well. He offered flexibility with the bat and was a handy option with the ball. Therefore, the selectors decided to go ahead with Hooda ahead of others including Samson for the T20 extravaganza.

Bairstow suffered the injury as a result of a "freak" golf accident while playing in Leeds. He missed the third Test against South Africa and will not feature in the global event as well.&nbsp;
The Yorkshire-born is known for his fearless batting approach and the world saw glimpses of the same in the IPL 2022. In 11 games for the Punjab Kings, Bairstow smashed 253 runs at a strike rate of 144.57. The charismatic cricketer is a game-changer with the bat and his unavailability in the World Cup is a massive blow for the Jos Buttler side.

However, Narine would not be part of the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup. On Narine's unavailability, CWI chief selector Desmond Haynes said “I did not get any notice from Narine regarding his availability to play. There were conversations that the captain (Nicholas Pooran) was having with Narine, and from all reports, it seemed that he was not interested."
Narine has been sensational for his national side taking 52 wickets in 51 matches at a jaw-dropping economy rate of 6.01. It is unfortunate that a player of such caliber would not feature in an event as colossal as the T20 World Cup.

The former South African skipper retired from Test Cricket last year to focus more on other formats. However, he has not been part of Proteas’ plans ever since. He was not handed a central contract and was overlooked for the last year’s World cup. The 38-year-old has unfortunately suffered a similar fate this time as well.
Du Plessis has been a giant of a player in the shortest format and has also delivered match-winning performances for his national side. In the 50 T20Is, the Pretoria born has piled up 1528 runs at a strike rate of 134.38.

Russell was in top form in IPL this year. The Jamaica-born amassed 335 runs in 14 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders at a strike rate of 174.48 and even took 17 wickets with the ball. With Russell not going to the World Cup, bowlers around the world will be relieved for sure.
