After a horrible 2021 T20 World Cup campaign, Team India promised to change the way they approach T20 cricket and tried numerous combinations to find their best squad. In comparison to their squad from the last year’s World Cup, Team India made a total of six changes. With Ravindra Jadeja being ruled out because of injury, there are five players who are dropped from the list.

Now interestingly, most of the players who are dropped didn’t get enough chances after the global event. They were pretty much axed and were immediately replaced. Thus, the question remains, what changed in just a span of 10 months? Were they not backed and the board took a harsh decision? Well, let’s dissect!

Changes Team India made to their squad since the 2021 World Cup

1. Ishan Kishan

Just a few months ago, Ishan Kishan was 6th in the ICC Men’s T20I ranking. He was considered as one of the top batters in the Indian squad but what happened next is a mystery. Indian selectors and the team management didn’t give him enough chances and the limited opportunities he got, Ishan Kishan failed to capitalize.

Overall, the southpaw had a poor IPL season as well. He was the backup wicketkeeper in the squad and played just one match in the last T20 World Cup. With just four runs in the tournament, Kishan failed to justify his talent and thus the board decided to look beyond him in 2022. That’s where Dinesh Karthik came in.

Now, Ishan can be considered as the future of Indian T20 cricket but the present definitely is Dinesh Karthik. He had a blistering season in the IPL and most importantly, fits brilliantly in the role he has been given by the team management. Now, with the top order already being stacked and now changes are currently expected, Ishan failed to make it to the squad. He’s not a part of the standby players as well.
