T20 World Cup 2022: 5 Indian players who might not feature in T20Is again
After India's disappointing campaign at the ongoing T20 extravaganza in Australia, certain players might not be in the team's scheme of things going forward.
4. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami has carried the mantle of the Indian bowling attack, alongside Jasprit Bumrah in both ODIs and Tests. He was also part of the Indian T20 setup until the 2021 T20 World Cup but was sidelined from the side after a poor showing at the global event.
Shami was not part of India’s initial plans for the ongoing T20 extravaganza. However, Bumrah’s back injury marked his return to the T20I fold and he was drafted into the squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia. The 32-year-old did a great job at the marquee tournament picking six wickets in as many games at an economy of 7.15.
Despite Shami’s decent showing, India might move past him as far as the shortest format is concerned. The Amroha-born was never India’s first-choice pick in T20Is and with a 50-over World Cup set to be played next year, the team management might persist with him only in the longer white-ball format and groom young pacers for the next T20 carnival.
