The T20 World Cup 2022 is just around the corner. Ahead of the October event, the teams need to submit their squad by September 16. Team India have a problem of plenty when it comes to selecting the 15-member squad. The Indian T20 circuit have many proven performers and not everyone can get a ticket to Australia. Some Indian regulars can shockingly face the axe in the build to the marquee event. Moreover, the losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup have raised a lot of eyebrows and it remains to be seen if some players are axed based on the performances. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant has been a constant figure in the Indian setup across formats. He has been among the best wicket-keeper batsman in the longest format of late. But the southpaw has not had the same prolific run with the bat as far as limited overs are concerned, especially T20Is. The 24-year-old has been central to India’s T20 World Cup plans and the Men in Blue played him as the middle-order dasher. However, Pant has not been able to fit the bill and currently struggling to find his range. Also, Dinesh Karthik has been in a rich vein of form since his comeback and the veteran wicket-keeper fits in as a designated finisher which is a rare breed. This has threatened Pant’s place more than ever and the Delhi batter could lose his place for the upcoming World Cup. 2. KL Rahul The Indian vice-captain has not been able to find his mojo since he made a comeback to cricket. KL Rahul had a poor Zimbabwe tour and has been scratchy in his outings at the Asia Cup so far. India has adopted a fearless batting approach since the last year’s World Cup exit. The Men in Blue has gone all guns blazing right from the get-go. However, Rahul's struggles at the top have been working against this ideology. The dashing opener’s slow starts have also pressurized skipper Rohit Sharma at the other end. If Rahul's poor run continues, he might get dropped for the upcoming World Cup. Moreover, Rohit & Co. have options in the form of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav for the opening slot. The duo has been in a rich vein of form of late. 3. Ravichandran Ashwin Ravichandran Ashwin made his comeback to the limited-overs leg in the last year’s T20 World Cup. This year as well the veteran all-rounder has been in the reckoning for a ticket to Australia but the situation is a bit dicey. Since the Indian Premier League, the Men in Blue have played four T20I bilateral series but Ashwin hasn't been part of many matches. He along with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi are the three spinners currently featuring in T20 Asia Cup. Any two of them shall likely go to Australia where conditions favour pace more than spin. Chahal has been India premier’s spinner so his place is almost certain. Bishnoi has been a regular in the T20 format for the Men in Blue and has bowled considerably well. This leaves Ashwin's place in jeopardy. 4. Deepak Hooda Deepak Hooda has had a stellar year in the T20 circuit. He featured for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and scored 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.67. He made his T20I debut this year and since then he has performed as and when required by the Men in Blue. In his short career, the batting allrounder has been striking at 157.61. Despite all the accolades, the 27-year-old might still be in the position to lose his World Cup spot. The majority of Hooda’s incredible outings with the bat have come at the top of the order where India already faces a lock jam. With the likes of Rohit, Kohli, Suryakumar, and Hardik Pandya in the mix, the Rohtak-born needs to slot in at the lower-middle order where he has not been tested that often. Hooda is currently playing at the ongoing multi-nation tournament in UAE. He had to slot in at No.7 in a full-strength batting lineup against Pakistan and the batter did not have a great outing. The promising all-rounder might lose his place if he is not able to make most of the chances. 5. Avesh Khan Avesh Khan has been one of the promising fast bowlers in the Indian circuit. After having exceptional seasons in the Indian Premier League, the 25-year-old has not had considerable success in the international arena of late. In his previous T20I series against West Indies, he played four matches and took three wickets conceding runs at an economy of 10.2. In the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, Avesh was drafted into the side but the Indore-born has been quite inconsistent with his performances. Due to the string of mediocre performances, Avesh might have blown away the opportunity to nail a World Cup spot. Moreover, with injured Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel on the road to recovery, the young pacer's chances of making it to Australia could be bleak.
