4. Rassie van der Dussen

The Protean broke his index finger while fielding during a Test match against England at the famous Old Trafford. The timing of the injury was such that Rasssie van der Dussen was left out of the series against India and for the mega event down under.

Earlier in a press briefing CSA's convenor of selectors said "Rassie - we are all aware that he broke his finger a week ago. He went for surgery. It will take up to six weeks before he has recovered. Unfortunately, the timing of his injury didn't come at the right time."

The door was wide open for Kolpak-returnee Rilee Rossouw in the squad following Van der Dussen’s absence. Rossouw could play crucial role in that top order for South Africa, but it remains to be seen if he can fill in the spot well.
