5. Vijay Shankar (Gujarat Titans)

Ahead of the mini-auction, Gujarat Titans (GT) took the decision of retaining Vijay Shankar for the 2023 edition. Before November 15, Shankar’s inclusion in the retention list was almost unlikely due to his career numbers in the cash-rich league. Last time, Shankar in the Titans jersey disappointed GT supporters with his unsatisfactory numbers as both a batter and a bowler.

He was bought at INR 1.40 crore at the 2022 mega auction by the new entrants Gujarat Titans for his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. The 31-year-old played four matches in the last edition and could manage only 19 runs at a paltry average of 4.75.

After such a dismal outing, Shankar’s ouster from Gujarat was highly likely but the franchise’s decision to support him was received as a shocker by several fans.
