Team-wise one player who was lucky to be retained

The players who got retained despite their underwhelming performances were fortunate to get another chance and hence there will be pressure on them to be assiduous and provide solid figures next time.

6. Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals procured the services of Riyan Parag after paying a hefty sum of INR 3.80 crore ahead of the 2022 season. His job in the team was to embolden the batting line-up with his contributions in the lower order.

But Parag, in 17 contests of the last edition, was unsuccessful in delivering anything solid to the team. Playing as a finisher, he racked up only 183 runs averaging 16.64. Except his 56 off 31 deliveries against RCB in the 39th match, there was nothing to praise about his batting in the last edition.

The 21-year-old batter will consider himself lucky for not facing the heat by getting released by the franchise. Despite his underwhelming efforts in the 2022 edition, Parag’s inclusion in the retained list for the next season is one of the most surprising things that happened ahead of the next season.
